Alpha Foundation Gestures
INC Alpha Chapters conducted 22
events in December 2008. The
events covered a variety of activities
such as health camps, eye camps, dental
camps, blood donation camps,
distribution of stationery items to the
orphans and woolen blankets to the
senior citizens, etc.
Blood Donation Camps
Cuttack
The Chapter conducted a blood donation
camp at the INC campus in association
with Central Red Cross Blood Bank,
Cuttack on December 1, 2008. 23 donors
including students and staff donated
blood. ETV Oriya covered the event.
Dharmsala
The Chapter organized a blood donation
camp on December 12, 2008 in
association with HDFC Bank and Red
Cross Society. 30 persons donated blood.
Meeta Panth, President, Hospital Welfare
Section, Kangra, was the Chief Guest. The
other dignitaries present were Capt. SM
Abrol, Secretary, Red Cross Society, Dr.
Purnima Thakur, Dr. Ajay Chauhan and
Dr. Meetha Pathania, HoD, Blood Bank,
Dr. Rajinder Prasad Kangra. INC students
and staff along with the staff of HDFC
Bank actively participated in the camp.
The event was covered in the daily
newspapers like, Punjab Kesri, Divya
Himachal, Amar Ujala, Dainik Jagaran and
Aap Ka Faisla on December 12, 2008.
Vizag
The Chapter conducted a blood donation
camp on December 20, 2008 in
association with Rotary Club, Vizag and
Rotract Club of INC. 38 students donated
blood. Rajeshwari, President, Rotary Club,
Rotarian Nehru, Dr. Balaraju from AS Raja
Foundation and Dr. Sudha, Campus Head,
INC-Vizag, participated in the camp.
Ajmer
The Chapter conducted a blood donation
camp in association with Red Cross
Society, Ajmer on December 31, 2008.
A total of 40 units of blood was donated
by the INC students and staff. ETV
Rajasthan, Voice of India and some local
newspapers covered the event.
Health camp
Thanjavur
The Chapter conducted a dual specialty
camp, viz., dental and eye checkup, for 100
children at an orphanage run by the Indian
Council for Child Welfare on December
20, 2008. 17 pairs of spectacles were
donated to the students. 18 children, who
had severe dental problems were referred
to the Government Hospital for free
treatment. Towels, toothpastes and cakes
were distributed to the orphans. 15
students of INC attended the camp. The
event received a wide coverage in the local
newspapers like, Thanthi and Dinakaran
and also in the local TV channels like, AMN
and Karan.
Distribution of Stationery Items
Amravati
The Chapter distributed stationery items
viz. compass boxes and writing pads to
the students of ZP Primary School,
Nimbha, Amravati on December 5, 2008
in the presence of Prof. Jamdale, Principal,
Mahatma Phule College. Kanchanmala
Tai Gudadhe, Sarpanch, Zilla Parishad,
Bhatkuli and Ashish Deshmukh, Campus
Head, counselled 200 students on their
career prospects.
Bhatinda
The Chapter distributed school uniforms,
sweaters and stationery items to 42 poor
students of Government Middle School,
Guru Sar Sainewala, near Bhatinda on
December 22, 2008. Sweets were also
distributed to the children. The students
of INC participated in the event.
Indore
The Chapter distributed blankets and
fruits to 20 senior citizens and orphans
of Jyoti Niwas, Indore which is run by
the Missionaries of Charity (of Mother
Theresa) on December 24, 2008. Fruits
were distributed to a total of 50 inmates.
Local media covered the event.
Guntur
The Chapter conducted a social service
activity in Municipal Elementary School,
Sarada Colony, Guntur on December 22,
2008. Cakes, notebooks and pens were
distributed to 150 students apart from
distribution of prizes to the winners of
the competitions. The students of INC
actively participated in this function.
Chandigarh
The Chapter distributed clothes and
blankets to the women and children of
the poor families located at Sector 25D
of Chandigarh. It was a realistic
experience for the students of INC to
work for a poor section of the society.
They gained first hand knowledge on
the importance of social actions.
Kota
The Chapter distributed woolen
blankets to 150 orphans of Mother
Theresa Home, Kota on December 22,
2008. Fruits and refreshments wereprovided to 160 mentally retarded
children. 29 students of INC
participated in the event. Local TV
channels and leading news papers
covered the event.
Social Activities
Dum Dum
The Chapter conducted 'Drawing
Competition' at the Alpha Center for
Learning (ACL), Garia, Kolkata on
December 18, 2008. Gifts and
refreshments were distributed. Prizes
were given to the winners of the
competition. 7 students of INC were
actively involved in this social event. 50
students in the age group of 5-12 years
participated.
Palakad
The Chapter visited Sabari Ashram
Orphanage on December 20, 2008 and
distributed gift pouches to 50 inmates.
Cakes and ice creams were given to the
orphaned children. Manoj Thekkedath,
Senior Editor, Manorama appreciated the
enthusiasm and professionalism of the INC
students. Manorama, ACV News and The
Hindu, gave wide coverage to this event.
Bellary
The Chapter distributed gifts and
eatables to 70 orphan girls at CSI
Orphanage Home for Girls on December
25, 2008. The program was colorful as
the inmates performed cultural events.
Noida
The Chapter organized a general
health checkup camp on December
22, 2008 in association with Prakash
Hospital, Noida. Dr. Anand Mohan,
Dr.Trinath along with Sunita Yadav, an
Occupational Therapist and the para
medical staff of the hospital carried out
eye/ear/skin checkup for 110 children.
Woolen pull-overs were distributed.
Dr. VS Chauhan, Director, Prakash
Hospital commented that this kind of
societal exposure will instill servicemindedness
in the youth and they can
become better citizen in the future.
Kota
The Chapter conducted another social
activity on December 22, 2008 at Karni
Nagar Vikas Samiti's Mamta Bhawan
Orphanage. 19 students participated in
the event and distributed gift packets to
the inmates, conducted competitions,
and gave away prizes to the winners.
Fruits and refreshments were also
provided to 150 participants. Leading
newspapers and local TV channels
covered the event.
Gurgaon
The Chapter organized a camp on
'Hygiene and Sanitation Awareness' at
Udyog Vihar Slum, Gurgaon on
December 22, 2008. The students of
INC-ASIM, Gurgaon, presented a skit
followed by a presentation on the
theme, for the enjoyment of 60
inmates.
Kolhapur
The Chapter organized a camp for 40
children at Panhala, Kolhapur in
collaboration with Balgram, a shelter
for children from the deprived
sections of the society on December
27, 2008. The activity which include
games like, simple scientific
experiments, jigsaw puzzles, story
telling etc. was designed and
conducted by INC students. Soap
cases were distributed and snacks
were also served to the students.
Sikar
The Chapter distributed blankets to 25
poor senior citizens on December 25,
2008 at Pareek Bhawan, Laxmangarh.
Refreshments were served to the
beneficiaries. The students of INC actively
participated in the program. Nathmal
Pareek was the Chief Guest, Dr. GD Singh,
Campus Head, INC, presided over the
function. Naveen Sharma, Alpha
Coordinator, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
Kochi
The Chapter visited orphanages,
Snehabhavan and Pallurthy located in
Ernakulum on December 16, 2008.
The program was inaugurated by Fr.
Sunny Thomas, Director, Sneha
Bhavan. 20 students of INC conducted
painting competition, straw games and
biscuit games for 70 children who are
in the age group of 5 to 7 years.
Mumbai (Mira Road)
The Chapter organized a social activity
for 145 Bhayander slum children who
were in the primary classes of a
Government School at Bhayander.
The importance of education was
explained to them in their local
language, Marathi. Games like, 'Pass the
Ball', 'Musical Chairs' etc., were
conducted. Refreshments were
provided to the children. Surprise gifts
were given to all the children.
Chandigarh
The Chapter conducted an 'Aids
Awareness Campaign' along with AISEC
Chapter (An NGO with Red Ribbon
message) on December 1, 2008 at Sukhna
Lake in Chandigarh City. 350 students
from INC as well as from some local
schools enthusiastically participated in
'Candle Light Vigil' and illuminated Red
Ribbon to spread awareness among the
youth and citizens of the city. This was
the first realistic experience for the INC
students to work with an NGO and other
members of the society.
